Let's talk ball.......

So as a continuation of Visco's Blog , let's talk about Barry and his chase for 756. I for one am torn. There are certain records you would like to see stand the test of time. Numbers like 2130 consecutive games played, 755 homeruns, 56 game hitting streak, .406 BA. Here are a few others I would like to add. 7 no hitters, 5714 strikeouts.

Do you see the mistake above? 2130 games..... that record held by Lou was smashed by good ole' Cal Ripkin Jr. And it is just shown to prove a point. Lou Gehrig was a great player, loved by many. When Cal approached his record, people waited in awe. They were excited to see another son of baseball loved by many break the record. By the way, Cal holds the record @ 2632 games.

So back to Barry. He is approaching/approached a record that is held by one of the greatest players of all times. And he is hated for it. Why? He's just not a good person. Steriod, arm brace talk aside. Barry is just not a well liked person. He doesn't show any respect. He is never humbled by the game. It is almost like he thinks that he transcends the sport. Well he doesn't, and the fans know this.

As for the record itself, although I like the number 755 and it has a huge meaning for the sport (Hank going thru a very racial time and still doing this) it is still an individual number, like the others above. And as we all know, baseball is a TEAM sport. So the big number now is 6.... and 26 if you are a Yankee's fan.

You want to try something fun sometime? Ask Joey how much he likes Barry Bonds. Good times, good times.
